Performed: October 2015 at the Nimbin Bush Theatre.
In the vast literary cosmos, Sir Terry Pratchett shines as a celestial body of wit and imagination, best known for the Discworld series. With over 40 uproarious fantasy novels to his name, Pratchett fashioned a universe akin to our own, albeit with a twist as peculiar as it is captivating: a flat world resting upon the colossal backs of four elephants, themselves perched atop a cosmic turtle voyaging through the star-studded expanse.
In ‘Wyrd Sisters,’ Pratchett orchestrates a comedic symphony by riffing on Shakespeare’s immortal tragedy, ‘Macbeth.’ With deft strokes of his literary brush, Pratchett magnifies the Bard’s iconic characters and plotlines, infusing them with his trademark blend of irreverent humor and keen insight. Here, readers encounter a nefarious duke and duchess, the spectral specter of regicide, bumbling soldiers, itinerant performers, all against the backdrop of a realm teetering on the brink of calamity. In Pratchett’s hands, ‘Wyrd Sisters’ becomes a rollicking journey through the realms of fantasy and farce, where laughter reigns supreme and no trope is sacred.”
The Nimbin Theatre Troupe artfully managed the Macbeth play-within-a-play element with simple yet effective staging to keep the action flowing from one scene to the next. This debut was squarely targeted at all ages – “a wonderful little out-of-this world experience for families to enjoy; full of witches, regicides, subtle and not-so subtle magicks and mysteries”.
Wyrd Sisters performed to packed (and one full) house, and was well received.
